Checking Out

Do I have to return items I borrow to the library where I checked them out?
No, you may return materials to any MPL facility. We'll get them back in the right location.

How long is the loan period?
For most items the loan period is 28 days. Rental books and videos are exceptions at 14 days.

How many items may I borrow at one time? Does that include CD's and books on tape?
You may have a maximum of fifty (50) items on loan, however only 10 of them can be CD's.

How do I know when something is due?
A date sticker is placed on the item when you check out. If it's removed, call and we'll tell you the due date. Click here to find out how to View Your Library Account

May I check out Magazines?
We have some magazines you may borrow. Please ask the staff which magazines are availible for loan. They vary by location.

How much does it cost to rent a video?
The rental fee is $1.00 for two weeks.

I found the book I want on the catalog, but it said "checked out". Does that mean it's checked out from every location? Also what does "On Order" mean?
The notation "checked out" means the first copy has been borrowed by another customer. Use the "view" command to see if there are other copies of the title available for loan. "On Order" means we are buying the item.

The computer says "Onshelf" but I can't find it.
"On Shelf" really means the item has been checked back in. It could be waiting to be re-shelved.
