Accessing ReferenceUSA - MSIE

Normally, when accessing ReferenceUSA from outside of the library, you should be prompted to enter only your library card number. Troubleshooting Internet Explorer

Another possibility is that your security settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer may be set too high to access ReferenceUSA. Following the instructions below may fix your problem. These steps essentially involve adding http://www.referenceusa.com to your list of Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer. Steps 3-6 involve regular Internet Explorer maintenance, which should be performed on a regular basis, no matter what websites you browse.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Go to "Tool" -> "Reset Web Settings" and press the "Yes" button when prompted

  3. Go to "Tools" -> "Internet Options..."

    You are presented with this window:

  4. Click "Delete Cookies", then press "Ok.

  5. Click "Delete Files...", CHECK the box labeled "Delete all offline content" and press "Ok"

  6. Click "Clear History" and press "Yes"

  7. Click on the "Security" tab. Click on "Trusted sites", then click the "Custom Level..." button.

  8. You will be presented with the window below. Next to "Reset to:" select "Medium", then press the "Reset" button. Then press "Ok".

  9. Then click on "Trusted sites" and press the "Sites..." button.

  10. UNCHECK the checkbox for "Require server verification (https:) for sites in this zone"

  11. In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" box, type http://www.referenceusa.com

  12. Press the "Add" button.

  13. In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" box, type http://12.11.159.139

  14. Press the "Add" button.

  15. Press "Ok" to exit the "Trusted Sites" window

  16. Press "Ok" to exit the "Internet Options" window

  17. Close all Internet Explorer windows, reopen Internet Explorer and login to ReferenceUSA as you normally would.
